There is a possibility that a procedure implemented by Apple may require the purchase of a new iPhone. Is your current phone impacted?

If you own an old iPhone over 10 years old, you may soon have to buy a newer phone.

This is because Apple will cut off support for many online services, such as App Store, Siri and Maps from devices running an operating system starting from iOS 11 to iOS 11.2.6 (iOS 11.2.6) according to the Daily Mail report.

So if you own a device that can't upgrade to iOS 11.3 at the very least, your phone will probably be largely disabled as of May 2023.

Although Apple is known to stop providing bug and security updates to older operating systems, this will be the first time it has effectively reduced its functionality.

Currently, any iPhone powered by iOS 11 can update to at least iOS 12.5.4, which includes iPhone 5S and newer versions, so these phones will still be able to use these services. But those with iPhone 5 or an older phone will not be available to them.

It is not yet known whether access to these Apple services will be removed for iOS 10 or older.

This may cause problems for companies that provide older and cheaper iPhones to employees, or for Apple users who do not want to buy new ones.

The Apple leaker, known as StellaFudge, posted the news on Twitter but said iCloud would continue to operate iPhone iOS 11 to iOS 11.2.6.

The tweet added that some Mac and Macbook laptops, Apple watches and Apple TVs may also not have access to the services removed.

The intended devices are MacOS 10.13 computers (macOS 10.13) to "10.13.3" and any watchOS (watchOS) hours from 4 to 4.2 .3 and TVs from TVOS 11 (tvOS 11) to 11.2.6.

MacOS 10.13.3 also includes former MacBook (late 2009), iMac (late 2009), MacBook Air (late 2010), MacBook Pro (mid 2010) and Mac Mini (mid 2010). Apple TV up to the third generation, which was released in 2012.

Although leaks are not always true, an article from Apple last month supports this prediction.

The article guides users how to update the software on their Apple device if they receive notification that the current version will not support Apple's services, such as App Store, Siri and Mabs.

It is not yet clear why Apple is now reducing the functionality of legacy operating systems, but it may be a step to a major update that is not compatible with these devices, according to the 9 to 5 Mac website (9to5Mac).

But the move is unlikely to affect many devices, as only 8% of iPhone devices currently use an older operating system than iOS 15.

The latest iOS 16.4 update last week came with a range of new features, including the addition of 21 new emojis to the keyboard.

Apple software updates are not always easy, which explains why some are reluctant to start them when viewing them.

Some of those who updated IOS 16.4 complained that a system defect was rapidly draining their device's battery life.
